Antique French Greyhound Nude Lady Bronz VICTOR PETER Hunt Dog Art Plaque Medal

You are viewing a charming and quite rare signed and dated 1923 plaque by the French animal sculptor and medallist Victor Peter (1840-1918). Peter was born in Paris and befriended and studied with Auguste Rodin, among others. In 1901 he was nominated as a professor at the School of Fine Arts (Beaux Arts) in Paris. He received a bronze medal at the Universal Exposition of 1889 and a gold medal at the Universal Exposition of 1900. He was known for his animal compositions!
This gold plated bronze plaque or medal was struck in 1923 and measures 4 x 5,7 cms. Depicting a greyhound running with a young nude lady godess of hunters, Dianan with a bow in her hand. Oak branch in the background. Published in French town Vichy for a canine or pedigree dog exhibition: EXPOSITION CANINE VICHY
The other side depicting a view of vichy decorated with gargoyles and dolphins. The crest of the town in the top left corner with a crown and ribbon written: VILLE DE VICHY
It is in fairly good condition with a nice patina. Some wear, nicks and scratches evident, as well as corrosion spots. I have not attempted to clean the medal at all. Signed Victor Peter at the front. Incised: Bronze and a triangle logo at the side.
